In our pursuit to find ways to add matcha green tea to the foods we already love, I came up with a great idea! How about putting my two favorite beverages together, to make one glorious drink? The drink of all drinks! I call it Green Tea Beer!

Okay, I didn’t just invent green tea beer. I actually got the idea from another green tea admirer who lives in my building. I made some adjustments and this is my final product.

Green Tea Beer Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon Matcha
  • 1/4 cup hot water (175ºF)
  • 1 ice cold beer
  • A drink shaker with a screw on lid

Steps:

  1. Spoon 1 teaspoon of matcha into a shaker.Green_Beer03
  2. Pour 1/4 cup of hot water into the shaker (See image #1 and #2).Green_Beer04
  3. Screw the lid tightly onto the shaker (See image #3), and shake until the matcha dissolves (See note below).
  4. Slowly release the air from the shaker. Now, you have a nice frothy matcha mix (See image #4).
  5. Pour the matcha into a glass, and add your favorite beer.

NoteMake sure the lid is tight! The pressure from the heated water will blow the lid clean off if it’s not tight. It will burn you, I know from experience.

The Verdict

I really like beer and I love matcha, but as a duet I’m not a big fan. In my opinion, the matcha watered down the taste of the beer. I could have sworn I was just drinking a club soda.

If you try making this drink yourself, I’d love to know what you think in the comments section below. Also, if you know of a different way to make it or a way to make it taste better, leave a comment with us.
